« For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. » Romans 3.23
« For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it » James 2.10
«Christ loved us and give himselfnup for us. » Ephesians 5.2
In the Bible, God’s law given by Moses was perfect, and Israelites had to respect it point by point. Experience has shown that the people did not respect this law. No one else would have been able to do! Of coursethe overwhelming majority of us has not transgressed the commandment “Thou shalt not kill.” But that has not disobeyed this: “You shall not desire”?
All men have disobeyed God. All but one, the One who came into the world 2,000 years ago, Jesus Christ, the perfect man, who fully fulfilled the law of God (Matthew 5:17). But he did much more than respect the law: he accepted to die crucified out of love for us, so that God forgives all our sins.
Today it is not trying to obey a law that we will be made righteous before God, because we will always be found faulty on one point or another. But is this is where the gospel is good news, God declares us righteous if we believe in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ who gave himself for us.
